My Long Time Dream Came True

by Shulamit Bell (New Your City, U.S.A.)

On 18th August 2025, my long time dream came true. I went to Częstochowa with my husband, daughter and grandson.

My father, Yehuda Hirsch, was born in Częstochowa in 1918. He grew up living at Stary Rynek 17 near the Old Market Square. {Stary Rynek).

We met our guides in Częstochowa, who took us to see the my father’s house address, as well as that of his grandparents.  We also visited the location of his cheder.

We visited the HASAG forced labour camp, where he was a prisoner and the Umschlagsplatz, from where his brother was taken to Treblinka,

The highlight was finding my great-grandmother’s kever [grave] in the Częstochowa Jewish Cemetery. Our grandson, who is named after my father, placed a rock on his great-great-great-grandmother’s kever

This trip gave us an insight into where we come from and was the trip of a lifetime.
